Pinguicula esseriana is a heterophyllous perennial that transitions seasonally between two distinct growth forms: compact winter rosettes featuring 35-40 succulent, narrow leaves, and summer growth displaying approximately 30 broader, thinner non-succulent leaves. Named after renowned German botanist Professor Karl Esser, this species demonstrates remarkable adaptability to changing conditions. Each specimen arrives bare root in protective packaging, approximately 0.5-0.75" in diameter—a modest size that remains relatively compact. Note that foliage coloration varies among plants; specimens develop deeper purple tones when exposed to intense light conditions. Plants are cultivated under LED lighting with daytime temperatures of 75-80°F and nighttime lows of 55-70°F. For winter shipments, a heating pack is strongly recommended to ensure safe transit and plant survival during cold months.
