Your jewelry is an extension of your personal expression. With the right care, each piece can stay beautiful wear after wear. Because different materials respond differently to everyday environments, we've outlined care practices by finish and material type — please read the guidance relevant to your pieces before wearing or cleaning.

Gold-Plated & Base-Metal Jewelry

Plated pieces feature a layer of gold or colored finish bonded over a base metal. That layer requires mindful handling to preserve its appearance over time.

Wear

  • Put jewelry on last — after applying skincare, lotions, serums, sunscreen, and perfume. These products contain chemicals and oils that accelerate tarnishing and wear on the plating.
  • Remove pieces before exercise, swimming, showering, or any activity that involves water, sweat, or friction.
  • Avoid contact with household cleaners, hairspray, and hand sanitizer.

Cleaning

  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth after each wear to remove skin oils and residue.
  • Do not use water, chemical cleaners, ultrasonic devices, or abrasive cloths on plated surfaces — these can strip the finish.
  • If light tarnish appears, a gentle wipe with a dry polishing cloth may help; avoid repeated rubbing in the same spot.

Storage

  • Store each piece separately in a soft pouch, lined box, or zip-lock bag to prevent scratching and cross-tarnishing.
  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from humidity and direct sunlight. Bathrooms are not ideal storage environments.

Freshwater & Shell Pearls

Pearls are organic and among the most delicate jewelry materials. They require their own care routine.

  • Wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth after wearing; allow to air-dry fully before storing.
  • Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam, or chemical jewelry cleaners on pearls.
  • Apply perfume and hairspray before putting on pearl pieces, never after.
  • Store flat in a soft cloth pouch — avoid hanging, which can stretch silk stringing over time.
  • Pearls can dry out; avoid extended storage in airtight containers.

General Storage Principles

  • Always store pieces individually to prevent tangling, scratching, and chemical transfer between metals.
  • A cool, dark, dry environment is best for all jewelry types.
  • Inspect clasps, prongs, and settings periodically. If a setting looks loose or a clasp is stiff, rest the piece until it can be inspected by a professional.
